Calendar for Eco-Tours and Events

We offer a variety of eco-tours that will suit a wide range of paddling skills. If you do not see an eco-tour that fits your interests, skills or schedule, contact us and we will build a tour around your desires, ability, and schedule.

Kayaking Tour Self-Assessment:  We are often asked about the suggested level of kayaking experience and skills needed to participate in the Florida Kayak School and Tour’s tours.  We have embraced a chart that was created by the Tampa Bay Sea Kayakers to help answer this question.  This chart will allow our clients to self-assess to determine which of our tours are appropriate for the paddler’s skill-level.  Each tour we offer has the suggested skill-level noted in the description.

St. Marks, FL: Master Class: Women Only, Kayak Camping 101 with Gennifer Gatan

This is your opportunity to learn what to take, how to pack and go boatin’ from British Canoe Union 5-Star paddler and ACA L-3 Instructor, Gennifer Gatan. Gennifer is a very experienced expedition paddler who lives in the Los Angels area and will be here at FKS&T to teach this Master Class for us. This edition of Kayak Camping 101 is an exclusive, women only class.

Kayak Camping 101:  Hate bugs, dirt, sleeping on the hard ground and eating gruel? It doesn’t have to be that way. With the right planning and gear, kayak camping can be enjoyed in real comfort - if not luxury. Your kayak is the perfect escape vehicle! More importantly, kayak camping offers a unique sensory experience. At remote campsites there is peace, solitude, and the sights, sounds and smells of nature. This experience allows for a mindset that creates a connection to nature that is second to none. In this environment, all food tastes like a gourmet meal. Inexpensive wine seems like the finest vintage. Sunrises and sunsets are longer and more profound and intense. This class will prepare you to experience the joys of getting way-away!

Part I: Lafayette Heritage Park: This land-based class will focus on a demonstration of “lavish” kayak camping. The talk will cover the basics of trip planning, equipment selection, packing and loading, site selection, and planning of food and water, dealing with local hazards, (bugs, storms, bears, etc.) and emergency equipment and procedures. If nothing else, you will be amazed at the luxurious amenities that can be stuffed into an ordinary touring/sea kayak.  This part of the course will be appox. 4 hours, 9:00 - 1:00, Friday, September 13. 2019. An equipment list for kayak camping and other kayak camping resources will be provided.

Part II:  Part II is of the Camping 101 course is a two-day, one-night, guided kayak camping paddle near Tallahassee. The paddle will be short, (approximately 5 miles each day with an option to have a late-afternoon “day-trip” after setting up camp), in relatively protected waters. This kayak camping trip calls for intermediate level paddling skills and appropriate safety gear as well as whatever amenities the participant chooses to bring. Meet at the put-in at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 14, 2019 and plan to be off the water by 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 15.
